I Like My Coffee...Like I Like My Man

I like my coffee Like I like my man Black Strong Robust Full of flavor Lively Deep Vibrant Hot Steamy With more caffeine Than a drug dealer That wakes my senses And brings me alive I like my coffee Like I like my man Exotic Addictive Potent Lingering in my thoughts Long after the initial introduction Sturdy Balanced With definition And variety Chameleon like Having the ability To blend in any environment Yet never looses it originality Nor its essence I like my coffee Like I like my man Giving me the “lift” I need To make it through the day Under any circumstance So addictive, that I find myself Wanting…..needing Just a taste of him Several times a day I like my coffee Like I like my man First thing in the morning After a shower And sometimes before To “wake” up my senses And bring me alive To journey on my way Black Strong Robust Vibrant Yeah...... That’s how I like him .

If I Were A Word

If I were a Word I’d want to be made love to I’d want to be stroked and caressed If I were a Word I’d want to be thought about carefully Not used in ignorance or mischief But for wisdom and love I’d want to be strong, fierce Powerful Like a fire that ceases to burn I’d want to leave them yearning for more If I were a Word I'd want to inspire and encourage Last as an eternal thought Having meaning and purpose If I were a Word I’d want to be understood Believed Conceived And Forever on the tongues of Poets If I were a Word I’d want to be scribed As an hieroglyphic On the ancient walls Of time As an emblem on the papyrus Of consistency If I were a Word I’d want to be holy And sacred Like life given to a new born baby The Light The gateway To everlasting life If I were a Word I’d be creation And manifestation of all things living I’d want to be like the permanent marker That can not be erased, eradicated, nor removed From the heart. If I were a Word I’d want wings like birds and unicor

Water Lily with Rain and Sunshine In hopes that she will grow I watch her in her youth For wisdom she does not know She spites my hand And neglects my knowledge She is not in search of truth She spits words of defiance To my nurturing And vomits out foolish things She sputters in her growth For she is not willing to “open” Her pathway to enlightenment I Try To Instill In the Water Lily Metaphors of survival And a vernacular feast Of "spiritual" food But she refuses to eat From the tree of life Rather she prefers To wither and die Like the foolish Flower she is.........

I Didn't Claim Poetry

Inspired my Amberly's Me Poem.....Amber, Thanks for the inspiration! I didn’t claim poetry Poetry claimed me It wrapped me up And seduced me At the tender age of three I didn’t claim poetry It claimed me It called my name While inside my mother’s womb It nurtured me And cuddled me And wrapped me up in its cocoon I write because of submission It is my therapy The only thing that allows Me to maintain my sanity I didn’t claim poetry Poetry claimed me With intoxication For words medication No need for translation It be my sedation I know no other way It is the ex-pression Of WHO I BE I live for it Die without it And strive to perfect it I be the muse To the ink The pen be the tool To express me Poetry is WHO I BE
